Submission to the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples

The coalition made a submission in December 2019, to the current UN thematic mandate holder, Ms Victoria Tauli-Corpuz for her report to the Human Rights Council and the UN General Assembly focused on Asia. The recommendations were as follows:

RECOMMENDATIONS


CSCHR therefore recommends the following for the kind consideration of the special rapporteur to be included in her forthcoming Asia report.


– Take prompt action to prevent the ethnocide of the indigenous people of Manipur and North East India


– Recognize the existence of Indigenous Peoples in this part of Asia and effective implementation of UNDRIP, including their Right to Self-determination


– Enforcement of the principle of free, prior and informed consent of indigenous peoples before introducing any development processes affecting their land, territory and resources.


-Implementation of the relevant recommendation of the various UN Human Rights procedures including UPR, treaty bodies, special procedures etc.
